Guided Meditation
Meditation is NOT sitting silently on a cushion, legs folded into a Lotus pose. It can be, if that is comfortable for you. Mediation can be any activity that brings peace of mind and can be done mindfully. The idea is to quiet the brain so you can rest and relax while in an awake state. It allows you to let go of distracting thoughts and tune into the present moment with open awareness. This can be done at any time of day for as long as you have time for it. It can be done when you first wake up, while you are getting ready for your day, exercising, cleaning the house, dancing, or even putting you to sleep. However, I do not recommend meditating while driving.
The Mind is a thinking machine, making it very difficult for the mind to quiet down. Listening to a guided meditation allows your mind to focus on what the meditation is about, allowing you to gain a better perspective in your inner life and provides a healing space allowing you to reflect on your feelings. It allows you to become relaxed and calm.
Meditation is not easy, it does take practice. It does not come naturally for most of us. With practice, you will start to see the benefits in both your mental and physical health. A five minute meditation can feel like an hour.
